August Birthstone: Peridot
Known as the “gem of the sun,” peridot has glowed with golden-green brilliance for over 4,000 years. Celebrated as the birthstone for August, it was treasured by the ancient Egyptians, who believed it harnessed the power of nature and brought protection and prosperity. Its luminous hue — somewhere between fresh olive and vivid lime — makes it one of the most joyful and life-affirming of all gemstones.
During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, peridot became a favourite among jewellers for its crisp, light-catching sparkle, often paired with seed pearls or old-cut diamonds in elegant gold settings. King Edward VII himself adored the gem, calling it “the evening emerald.”
Our collection of antique and vintage peridot jewellery celebrates this history — from romantic rings and pendants to exquisite earrings and brooches. Each piece is hand-selected by Zuleika Gerrish FGA DGA, authenticated, and presented in our signature Parkin & Gerrish pink-and-green box, ready to shine anew.
